Blind Faith:Twenty-Four

Memories of a Former Tyrant

Galaxy Garisson HQ: Zarkon's Office:

Zarkon hurried back to his small office nearby, sat down at his desk and pulled up a galactic map on his computer. Placing a finger to his lips, he thoughfully looked at the screen.

Vector 4.500..It had been at one time a jumping off point for his fleet, when they went on raids and conquered various planets. But this was back in the days when he had first took over Doom as Regent for the vast Drule empire that was four quadrants away. Part of the reason he became the ruling Regent-king of Doom was because it was part of the dowry that his wife -

Wait. His wife. Lotor's mother..A slow evil smile crept upon his lips.

Yes..Cieres. Lady Cieres. Distant cousin to General Kheezor and cousin to the Emperor himself. As the Emperor had no children of his own, he had doted on Cieres. When Zarkon came to call upon her, he had disapproved of the match. But Zarkon had charmed Cieres utterly and in the end he had won the lovely Drule over completely. The Emperor had no choice but to give in to Ciere's desires and so they had been wed. However, the Emperor did not wish for Cieres to be without a planet to rule with her new mate with, and so he gave Doom - actually it was originally named Voth'ganus - so that Cieres and Zarkon would rule as Regent-king for the Druule Supremacy at large. Ah, but Voth'ganus was QUITE far away from the center of the Empire and so Zarkon was free to build his fleet and his own Empire far from the prying eyes of his 'father-in-law'. By the time Cieres had his daughter - what WAS her name? Ah, Alerra - he had involved himself with a beautiful soceress named Hagar. He had quite easily snatched her allegiance and love away from a young Arun prince named Alfor. The fool had been SO stupid to let her get away, but this was to Zarkon's advantage. And although Zarkon had promised Hagar that she would be Queen,he really didn't hold to that.

Yes, things had been working out well until he had found out that Cieres had taken his children, rather, his son. He had found out where she had went by dint of torturing her attendants. He had finally gotten the answer from a man who worked within his Fleet as a navigator. He was half in love with Cieres, that had obviously been in love with her, and Zarkon was quite sure that Ciere had had an affair with him. He made sure her lover died a quite gruesome and painful death and then he went to retrieve Cieres and his children.

He HADN'T intended to kill Cieres but she had made him quite angry. She, who had dared to challenge his authority over her! And too, she had said that she had sent a subspace message to her cousin the Emperor demanding that Zarkon be taken off the throne AND be summarily divorced from her. Oh, she had been foolish to tell him all THAT. He had his men destroy the lush greenry and the flowers that were about the lagoon and the waterfall - he knew that she enjoyed beautiful things. His children had screamed in terror as laser fire swept all around them, and Cieres had tried to retrieve them, but he had stopped her. With his fists he beat her and yet still she screamed her hate of him and what she had done. Finally in his rage, he felled her with his sword, bloodying the water of the lagoon with her blood. He had looked upon the body of his dead wife with scorn and then had ordered his two children, Lotor and Alerra, to come with him. But instead, he saw his only son crying and cradling his dead sister in his arms.

"Get up, boy." Zarkon stood over him, a grim look upon his face.

The boy, who looked so much like Cieres said, "You killed mother and Alerra!"

"I did nothing of the sort, boy." Zarkon smiled coldly. "SHE killed herself for defying me."

Lotor stared at the unmoving body of his mother and then looked down at his sister, who was obviously the victim of laserfire at close range.

"Get up, boy. She is dead." Zarkon tugged at Lotor's arm.

"No!" Lotor jerked his arm away and this enraged Zarkon. He grabbed a handful of his son's hair and jerked him up. He cried out as Alerra slumped down onto the ground.

"You WILL OBEY me!" Zarkon yelled into Lotor's tear-stained face. "And you will ACT as befits a son of a KING, do you understand me, boy? "

"You KILLED them!" Lotor cried out, trying to fight the demon that was his father.

Zarkon backhanded Lotor, all the while gripping his hair.

"It is MY RIGHT, whelp! And YOU WILL OBEY ME OR I WILL MAKE SURE YOU SUFFER!!!" Zarkon jerked Lotor away by his hair and before they got on board the ship that would take them home, Zarkon hit his son, knocking him unconscious.

Zarkon let his thoughts come back to the present and smiled thinly. He knew where they were now. Once again his foolish son had slipped up. Zarkon took out the portable datapad that he carried and put in a single line of data:

Vector 4.500.Cieres7-Niner

"Let the fun begin.." Zarkon chuckled lowly.
